Lawmaker files bill to regulate pet crematorium industry in Philippines

MANILA — FPJ Panday Bayanihan Party-List Representative Brian Poe said he will file a measure to establish regulatory standards for pet crematoriums across the country, responding to reports of deceased animals being abandoned in Bulacan.

Poe expressed concern over the inadequate oversight of facilities handling companion animal remains, noting that the absence of clear guidelines has led to improper disposal practices that raise public health and animal welfare concerns.

The proposed Companion Animal After-Life Care and Protection Act will establish minimum operational standards for pet cremation services, including requirements for proper handling, documentation, and disposal procedures. The measure aims to ensure that pet owners have access to dignified and regulated services when dealing with the remains of their deceased animals.

The bill represents part of broader efforts in Congress to strengthen animal protection laws and improve industry oversight in the Philippines. Poe's proposal follows similar concerns raised by animal welfare advocates regarding the need for standardized protocols in the pet cremation sector.
