MANILA — Rep. Elijah San Fernando has raised concerns about the adequacy of the Department of Budget and Management's proposed budget for the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in 2027, arguing the allocation is insufficient to maintain the university's day-to-day operations.
San Fernando presented his concerns during House sponsorship proceedings on Wednesday, emphasizing that the proposed funding level does not reflect the realistic financial requirements of one of the country's major public educational institutions.
The lawmaker's criticism comes as Congress reviews the administration's budget proposals for the upcoming fiscal year. PUP, one of the Philippines' leading technical and vocational universities, serves thousands of students across multiple campuses nationwide.
