MANILA — Akbayan Party-list Representative Percival Cendaña has appealed to lawmakers to restore funding for the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) bus carousel system in next year's national budget, arguing the project would benefit millions of daily commuters across the metropolitan region.
Cendaña raised the matter during the House committee on appropriations' review of the Department of Transportation's proposed 2027 budget allocation. The legislator emphasized that reinstating support for the busway project would enhance mobility options for Filipino commuters navigating the congested thoroughfare.
The EDSA bus carousel system has been identified as a key infrastructure initiative to decongest one of Metro Manila's busiest arterial roads. The project aims to provide dedicated lanes for buses, streamlining passenger flow and reducing travel times for the thousands of workers, students, and residents who traverse the corridor daily.
The appeal comes as the House committee continues deliberations on departmental budgets ahead of the 2027 fiscal year. Cendaña's intervention highlights ongoing congressional concerns about funding priorities for public transportation improvements in the capital region.
