Lawmakers push for expanded health insurance for public school teachers

A proposal has been introduced in the House of Representatives to require the Department of Education to establish health insurance coverage for government school teachers nationwide. House Bill No. 10984, filed by Quezon City Representative Patrick Michael Vargas, would provide educators with additional protection against substantial medical costs that exceed coverage under existing government health programs.

The measure responds to concerns that current health benefits available to public school teachers may be insufficient to cover catastrophic medical emergencies and specialized treatments.
