MANILA — Members of the House minority bloc have renewed calls for swift government action on school security and safety reforms in the wake of an armed attack at a South Cotabato national high school that resulted in multiple casualties and injuries.
The incident has prompted lawmakers including Akbayan party-list representatives Chel Diokno and Percival Cendaña to emphasize the urgent need for comprehensive policy measures addressing school violence and protection of students.
The minority legislators stressed that piecemeal approaches to school safety are insufficient, and that the government must adopt a coordinated strategy encompassing security infrastructure, emergency response protocols, and preventive measures.
The push for reforms comes as education officials and security experts continue assessing vulnerabilities in the country's school system. Opposition figures have called on the executive branch to prioritize the safety measures without further delay.
