Lawmakers weigh malicious prosecution case against VP Duterte's husband

MANILA — House impeachment prosecutor and Bicol party-list representative Terry Ridon said Thursday that lawmakers are contemplating filing a malicious prosecution case against Manases "Mans" Carpio, the husband of Vice President Sara Duterte, in response to the dismissal of Carpio's complaint against them.

Ridon indicated that the possible legal action remains under discussion among his colleagues in Congress. The move would represent a counter-legal strategy following the rejection of Carpio's complaint, which had been filed against the impeachment prosecutors.

The development marks an escalation in tensions between the Vice President's camp and the House impeachment contingent. Carpio's dismissal case had centered on allegations against lawmakers involved in impeachment proceedings related to Vice President Duterte.

No timeline has been set for a final decision on whether to pursue the malicious prosecution complaint. Ridon stated that consultations with fellow lawmakers would precede any formal filing of charges against Carpio.
