MANILA — Levito Baligod, attorney representing the group known as the 'Maleta boys,' posted bail Friday in a libel case initiated by Manila 6th District Representative Benny Abante.

Abante filed the complaint in June against Baligod and 18 former bodyguards of then-Ako Bicol party-list Representative Elizaldy "Zaldy" Co. The allegations relate to accusations that Abante had received suitcases, though details regarding the specific nature of these claims remain under legal review.

The bail posting marks a procedural step in the ongoing legal dispute between the parties. Baligod's posting of the required amount allows him to secure his temporary release pending further court proceedings on the libel case.

The case adds to ongoing controversies involving former lawmakers and their security personnel in recent months.
