LCS project completion lags 7.55 percent behind schedule, audit reveals

An interim audit of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) project has revealed that construction progress lags 7.55 percent behind the planned timeline, according to findings from the National Audit Department (NAD).

The audit was conducted to evaluate the project's management across multiple critical areas, including physical advancement, financial performance, contract administration and adherence to payment terms under existing contractual agreements and applicable regulations.

The assessment examined whether project managers have effectively overseen expenditures and maintained compliance with contractual obligations and statutory requirements governing the defence procurement initiative.

The LCS programme represents a significant defence investment for Malaysia's naval modernisation. The audit findings provide an official assessment of project execution to date and highlight areas requiring attention to ensure timely completion and effective resource management.

The National Audit Department's interim review serves as part of ongoing oversight mechanisms to monitor large-scale government projects and ensure accountability in public spending.
