LDF to mount street lighting protest in Kochi Corporation area

The LDF has scheduled a protest action to highlight what it describes as the deteriorating condition of streetlights across Kochi Corporation limits. The party claims that the civic administration has failed in its fundamental responsibility to maintain functional public lighting despite being the primary authority overseeing municipal services.

According to the LDF's position, the situation represents a dual failure: administrative negligence coupled with the exploitation of public assets by private contractors. The organizations responsible for maintaining and operating the streetlights have allegedly been permitted to monetize their position through commercial advertising arrangements, while core maintenance obligations remain unmet.

This move comes as residents across various wards in the corporation area have increasingly complained about non-functional streetlights, citing safety and security concerns. Poor street lighting in urban areas typically impacts public safety, increases accident risks, and creates security vulnerabilities for commuters, particularly during evening hours.
