Leclerc sets pace for Ferrari in US Grand Prix opening practice
Charles Leclerc topped the timesheets in Friday's opening practice session at the US Grand Prix, edging out championship contender Max Verstappen by less than a tenth of a second. The Ferrari driver's best lap of one minute and 36.052 seconds placed him ahead of the Red Bull driver, who has won the previous two races.

Leclerc demonstrated strong early form at the Circuit of the Americas, establishing himself as the pace-setter during the first practice session. His lap time of 1:36.052 proved decisive, with Verstappen's best effort falling just 0.084 seconds shy of the Ferrari driver's mark.
The result offers an early indication of the competitive balance heading into the weekend's qualifying and race activities. Verstappen's recent run of back-to-back victories has established Red Bull as the team to beat, yet Friday's session suggested Ferrari may pose a significant challenge at this venue.
First practice sessions often provide teams with preliminary data for setup adjustments and tyre evaluation rather than a definitive indication of weekend performance. However, Leclerc's advantage over Verstappen suggests Ferrari has made notable progress during the development cycle.
The opening session served as the first opportunity for drivers and teams to gather information on track conditions and vehicle performance ahead of the second practice session later on Friday. Additional practice, qualifying, and race day activities remain before the final order is determined at the US Grand Prix.
