The Left parties launched a formal complaint against the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on Thursday, alleging systematic cash distribution to voters in the two Tamil Nadu Assembly constituencies where bypolls are set to take place on October 6. According to the parties, TVK's activities represent the most extensive use of monetary incentives compared to all other competing political formations in the electoral process.
The opposition parties have demanded immediate intervention by the Election Commission of India, citing potential violations of electoral conduct guidelines. They contend that such distribution of cash to voters undermines the integrity of the democratic electoral process and constitutes an unfair advantage for the ruling party.
The bypolls in the two constituencies are seen as a significant test for the TVK administration, which came to power in recent state elections. The allegations add to the electoral scrutiny surrounding the poll preparations, though the Election Commission has not yet made a public statement on the matter.
The claims come amid heightened political tension in Tamil Nadu, with opposition parties intensifying their focus on election-related compliance issues. Both the scale and timing of the alleged cash distribution have drawn particular criticism from Left-leaning political groups, who argue such practices amount to a systematic flouting of electoral norms.
