Left-affiliated parties and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) organised a coordinated demonstration pressing the government to ensure transparency in the beneficiary selection process for Indiramma Houses, a flagship affordable housing initiative. The joint protest highlighted grievances regarding the delayed disbursement of funds for housing projects sanctioned under various schemes including the Indira Awaas Yojana.
The protesting parties called for the immediate release of pending bills associated with incomplete houses, arguing that the delays have left beneficiaries in financial limbo and stalled construction activities. They contended that the current selection mechanism lacks adequate oversight and public accountability, potentially favouring certain beneficiary categories over others.
The demonstration reflects growing political scrutiny over housing scheme implementation in the region. Both the Left parties and BRS have demanded that authorities establish clear, merit-based criteria for beneficiary selection and implement a time-bound framework for fund release to prevent further construction delays.
The protest comes as housing schemes remain central to development agendas across South Asia, with questions persisting over effective delivery mechanisms and equitable distribution of benefits among eligible applicants.
