Left parties distance themselves from TVK, to contest bypolls independently

The Communist Party of India (CPI) will contest the byelections independently, with the party fielding a candidate from the Dharapuram constituency, according to state secretary M. Veerapiandian. The CPI's decision follows a similar announcement by the CPI-M, which said its state committee has decided to participate in the bypolls as a separate entity.

CPI-M state secretary M. Shanmugam announced the party's decision at a state committee meeting held in Tiruchirapalli. The meeting concluded that the Marxist party would not align with other political groupings for the upcoming elections.

The announcement represents a divergence between the Left parties and the Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar), which has aligned with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. The decision underscores the distinct political trajectory the Communist parties intend to pursue in Tamil Nadu's evolving political landscape.
