Lim demands action against Zahid over Rural Ministry overspending

KUALA LUMPUR — The opposition has intensified scrutiny of the government's spending practices, with DAP's Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng demanding action against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over reported overspending at the Rural Development Ministry.
Lim's call comes as concerns mount over fiscal management within the ministry, which he claims has exceeded its budget allocation by RM2.1 billion. The allegation has reignited debate over government expenditure oversight and accountability mechanisms.
The DAP lawmaker's intervention represents part of broader parliamentary efforts to scrutinise ministerial spending at a time when the government faces mounting pressure to demonstrate fiscal discipline and transparency in budget management.
The Rural Development Ministry, which oversees programmes affecting communities across the nation, is a significant government portfolio. Zahid, who holds the Deputy Prime Minister position alongside other ministerial responsibilities, has not immediately responded to the allegations.
