A residence belonging to a senior CPI(M) leader in Kolkata was targeted in what authorities are investigating as a possible political attack. According to accounts of the incident, multiple individuals arrived on motorcycles and hurled liquor bottles at the house, shattering window panes and causing property damage.
The leader filed a formal complaint with local police following the early morning incident. In his statement, he alleged that political opponents, specifically naming the Bharatiya Janata Party, were responsible for orchestrating the attack as part of ongoing political tensions in the state.
The attack comes amid heightened political rivalry in West Bengal between the ruling Trinamool Congress, the opposition BJP, and the historically dominant Left Front parties. Such incidents of political violence have punctuated the state's electoral landscape in recent years.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter. Authorities are reviewing security camera footage and appealing for witness accounts to identify the perpetrators. The Left leader's allegations against the BJP have not been independently verified at this stage.
