Liquor outlet in Tamil Nadu town targeted in overnight burglary

A Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac) retail outlet in Tiruvannamalai fell victim to a burglary overnight, with unidentified thieves making off with critical components of the premises' security infrastructure.

Police discovered that the perpetrators had specifically targeted and removed hard disk drives from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed within the outlet. In addition to the theft, the cameras themselves sustained damage during the break-in, hampering the establishment's ability to conduct a forensic review of the incident.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding the security of retail outlets across the state. Authorities have launched an investigation into the burglary, focusing on determining the identity of those responsible and recovering the stolen equipment. The removal of surveillance data storage devices suggests the burglary may have been premeditated, with perpetrators seeking to eliminate evidence of their activities.

Tasmac officials have not yet released information regarding the time of the break-in or an estimated value of goods or equipment lost in the incident.
