LIV Golf confident of retaining star players amid restructuring

LIV Golf's incoming investors are confident the professional men's league can retain its star players as it navigates financial restructuring under Chapter 11 protection, according to statements made Wednesday.

BC Partners Credit, heading the new investment group, signalled that player retention presents a manageable challenge despite the league's current difficulties. The investor framed the issue as a "very achievable hurdle" that can be overcome within a relatively short timeframe.

The comments come as LIV Golf, the Saudi-backed league that launched in 2022, works through its financial restructuring process. The league has attracted several high-profile golfers away from the PGA Tour, though maintaining these roster additions amid ongoing operational changes remains a key concern for stakeholders.

The league's ability to keep established players will be crucial as it seeks to stabilize operations and pursue its longer-term strategic objectives. Securing player commitments during the restructuring period could also strengthen the league's position with potential sponsors and broadcasters.
