LMP vows safeguards for record P58.3-billion local government fund

MANILA – The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) has pledged that comprehensive safeguards will shield the proposed P58.32-billion Local Government Support Fund for 2027 from partisan influence and guarantee equitable distribution to all local government units.
The amount marks a historic high for LGSF allocations under the national budget. LMP officials emphasized that institutional mechanisms have been established to prevent the fund from being diverted toward political favoritism or used to advantage certain municipalities over others.
The support fund represents a critical revenue source for thousands of LGUs nationwide, enabling them to finance essential infrastructure, social services, and development programs at the grassroots level. Transparent allocation criteria and independent oversight mechanisms are expected to ensure that disbursements follow objective standards based on need, population, and other measurable indicators.
The LMP's commitment to protecting the fund reflects growing concerns among local government leaders about maintaining the integrity of intergovernmental fiscal transfers.
