Lok Adalats clear over 1.20 lakh cases in Nellore district

Fast-track settlement initiatives through Lok Adalats have successfully resolved more than 1.20 lakh cases in SPSR Nellore district, offering relief to litigants facing prolonged court proceedings. The alternative dispute resolution mechanism has emerged as a critical tool in tackling the persistent backlog affecting the region's judicial system.

According to A. Narasimha Murthy, Principal District & Sessions Judge, the district continues to grapple with a significant caseload. Currently, 54,590 cases remain pending across all courts in the district, comprising 22,988 civil matters and 29,742 criminal cases awaiting disposal.

Lok Adalats, informal judicial forums that facilitate amicable settlements between parties, have gained traction as an effective mechanism to expedite case resolution outside traditional courtroom proceedings. These initiatives are particularly valuable in addressing minor disputes and enabling faster closure of cases that might otherwise consume considerable court time.

The continued reliance on Lok Adalats reflects broader efforts across Indian courts to manage rising litigation volumes and reduce pendency rates. District authorities have emphasized the importance of such mechanisms in providing accessible justice while freeing up court resources for more complex matters requiring formal adjudication.
