PUTRAJAYA — Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has dismissed suggestions that political connections are central to an ongoing financial dispute involving MYEG Services and Zetrix, stating the core issue concerns unpaid obligations rather than any alleged ties to Umno.
Loke addressed mounting criticism surrounding his past associations with the companies, which are at the centre of a RM314 million arrears controversy. He indicated that calls for his resignation over the matter lack merit, arguing that the substance of the dispute should take precedence over questions about political affiliations.
The minister's position comes as the dispute continues to draw scrutiny from lawmakers and civil society groups. The arrears row has intensified debate about governance standards and the conduct of officials with prior business connections to companies involved in government dealings.
Loke has previously outlined his separation from the companies' operations, emphasising that his ministerial duties and personal business interests remain distinct. Government officials have indicated that investigations into the arrears matter are ongoing through appropriate channels.
