The Telangana Association of United Kingdom (TAUK) hosted a large-scale Bathukamma and Dasara celebration in London, drawing more than 2,000 attendees to mark the traditional festivals. The event served as a platform to showcase Telangana's cultural identity and handloom craftsmanship to the diaspora community.
Anil Kurmachalam, founder of TAUK, emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Telangana's textile traditions among overseas communities. The occasion provided artisans and cultural enthusiasts an opportunity to demonstrate the region's rich heritage in handloom production and design.
Bathukamma, a floral festival celebrated primarily by women in Telangana, and Dasara, a pan-Indian festival marking the triumph of good over evil, were observed with traditional festivities. The combined celebration reflected the cultural significance these festivals hold in Telangana's social fabric.
The event underscored efforts by diaspora organizations to maintain cultural connections and support traditional industries from abroad. Such gatherings have become increasingly important in sustaining interest in regional crafts and customs among Indian communities settled overseas.
