Long Beach City College Plans $250 Million Stadium Redevelopment Project
Long Beach City College is undertaking a major redevelopment of its historic Veterans Memorial Stadium, replacing the decades-old facility with a modern 18-acre sports precinct. The ambitious $250 million project is expected to be completed by summer 2029.

The California institution acquired Veterans Memorial Stadium in 1987 when the city sold the facility for $1, following its original opening in 1950. The redevelopment will transform the aging venue into a contemporary sports complex designed to serve the college's athletic and community needs.
The new precinct will feature multiple facilities across its 18-acre footprint. Plans include a 10,000-seat outdoor stadium, an indoor arena, specialized track and field facilities, and dedicated football fields. The comprehensive redesign aims to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for collegiate and recreational sports programming.
Funding for the project comes through Measure LB, a local funding initiative that has allocated the necessary resources for the redevelopment. Construction is scheduled to commence with the new sports complex expected to open in summer 2029, marking a significant upgrade to the college's athletic infrastructure and campus facilities.
