Long-delayed Albay bridge set to open after 15-year construction hiatus

MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced Monday that the Kilicao-Binitayan bridge in Daraga, Albay will commence operations on Friday, October 30, marking the conclusion of a construction timeline that stretched across 15 years.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon conducted an inspection of the bridge on Monday, affirming the readiness of the infrastructure project for public use. The protracted delay in completing the bridge had previously extended well beyond initial projections, leaving the local community without the vital transport link for an extended period.

The opening of the bridge is expected to improve connectivity in the Albay province and facilitate enhanced mobility for residents and commercial traffic in the Daraga municipality. The completion of this long-pending infrastructure project represents a significant milestone for the region's transportation network development.

The DPWH's confirmation of the opening date comes as authorities continue efforts to address infrastructure backlogs affecting various regions across the country. The agency has prioritized expediting completion of pending projects to improve public services and economic activity in provincial areas.
