Long-serving giraffe at Dehiwala Zoo passes away

The giraffe, which had spent considerable years as part of the zoo's collection, died after an extended life in captivity. The animal had been a notable presence at the Dehiwala Zoo, one of South Asia's oldest zoological institutions located in the suburbs of Colombo.

Zoo officials confirmed the death and acknowledged the giraffe's role in the facility's operations over the years. The loss comes as zoos across the region continue to manage aging animal populations and adapt their care protocols accordingly.
