Long Thanh Airport, a major infrastructure project in Dong Nai Province south of Ho Chi Minh City, is entering the final stages of preparation for its initial trial operations. The new terminal building, representing an investment of approximately VND35 trillion (US$1.3 billion), is undergoing rapid completion of essential passenger-handling systems.
Construction teams have prioritized installation of check-in facilities and automated baggage systems, critical components needed for the airport to begin receiving aircraft and conducting operational tests. The trial phase will allow airport authorities to validate systems and procedures before the facility opens for commercial services.
Long Thanh International Airport is expected to serve as a major aviation gateway for southern Vietnam and the wider Mekong region. The facility has been designed to accommodate increasing air traffic demand and reduce congestion at existing airports in the area.
The October timeline marks a significant milestone for the project, which has faced multiple delays since initial planning stages. Completion of trial operations will represent progress toward the airport's eventual transition to full commercial service, though officials have not yet announced a definitive date for public operations.
