Lovely Professional University suspends classes after campus unrest

Lovely Professional University (LPU) announced a 10-day suspension of academic activities on Monday in response to escalating campus unrest. The decision comes after student demonstrations over unverified claims of sexual misconduct, which allegedly turned violent at the Jalandhar-based institution.

The university administration has also deferred mid-term examinations scheduled during the suspension period. A spokesperson confirmed that the decision was taken to ensure safety and allow authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly.

Local law enforcement has filed a formal First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the incidents reported during the protests. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising senior officers has been constituted to examine the allegations and circumstances surrounding the demonstrations.

The university administration has appealed for calm on campus while investigations proceed. Students have been advised to remain peaceful and cooperate with authorities. Further updates on the resumption of classes and revised examination schedule are expected once the situation stabilises.
