Lovlina Borgohain receives hero's welcome after Asian Games boxing triumph

Borgohain landed at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati where she was greeted by a welcoming delegation spanning the state's political leadership. Assam Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Biswajit Daimary and state BJP president Dilip Saikia were among senior officials who received the champion boxer, alongside her family members and supporters.

The Congress party also organized a separate felicitation at the airport, with senior leader Pranati Phukan leading a delegation that presented Borgohain with traditional gifts including a gamosa and jaapi. Multiple Congress leaders, including Bipul Gogoi, Bedabrata Bora and Udit Bhanu Das, participated in the welcome ceremony.

Borgohain's victory on October 2 marked a significant milestone for Indian women's boxing. Her triumph made her only the second Indian woman boxer to claim an Asian Games gold medal, following MC Mary Kom who achieved the feat in 2014. The feat adds to Borgohain's growing list of accolades, which includes a bronze medal from the Tokyo Olympics.
