NAGA CITY, Camarines Sur — The annual Peñafrancia Fluvial Procession will take place Saturday evening, September 19, as organizers postpone the event from its customary late-afternoon timing to allow water levels in the Naga River to rise sufficiently.
The decision was made to ensure safe passage of the Pagoda carrying religious images of Our Lady of Peñafrancia and El Divino Rostro along the river route. Organizers determined that current water conditions posed risks to the ceremonial vessel and determined a later start time would provide better conditions for the procession.
The shift represents a significant departure from the celebration's traditional schedule, marking the first instance the revered religious observance will occur after nightfall. The Peñafrancia Fluvial Procession ranks among the Philippines' most important religious events, drawing thousands of devotees annually to Camarines Sur.
