LPG agencies get software upgrade as e-KYC deadline pushed to September

Domestic liquefied petroleum gas agencies across India have received a software update to facilitate electronic Know Your Customer verification, signalling regulatory intent to streamline the authentication process ahead of the revised deadline. The extension to September 7 provides additional time for LPG distributors and consumers to complete the mandatory digital identity verification requirement.

As of the latest official count, approximately 86 per cent of India's 1.26 crore domestic LPG consumers have successfully completed e-KYC verification. The high completion rate indicates substantial progress in implementing the digital authentication framework across the country's distributed network of gas distribution agencies.

The software upgrade is designed to improve operational efficiency at LPG agencies and reduce friction in the verification process. Officials view the technical enhancement as essential infrastructure support for achieving fuller compliance with e-KYC requirements before the September deadline.

The e-KYC mandate forms part of broader regulatory efforts to digitise consumer authentication in India's energy sector and strengthen consumer databases. The phased implementation approach, marked by the extended deadline, allows agencies in remote and underserved regions additional time to complete the process while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
