LRT-2 resumes full operations after lightning damage halts service

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) confirmed that full operations resumed across the LRT-2 line after technicians repaired a severed catenary wire at Antipolo station. The damage occurred on Tuesday afternoon when lightning struck the station, disrupting the power supply required to operate the rail system.

During the outage period, the LRTA implemented a reduced service schedule between Recto and Santolan stations in both directions to maintain limited connectivity for commuters. The temporary measure allowed passengers to continue traveling on portions of the line while repairs were underway.

Lightning-related incidents have periodically disrupted Manila's rail network during the monsoon season. The LRTA did not disclose the estimated cost of repairs or provide details on preventive measures being considered to mitigate similar weather-related incidents in the future.

The LRT-2 serves as a critical transportation corridor in Metro Manila, connecting key business and residential districts along its 13.8-kilometer line. The restoration of full service is expected to alleviate congestion that typically affects commuter routes during peak hours.
