LTA can access ERP 2 location data for law enforcement purposes

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has clarified that it possesses the technical capability to extract vehicle location information from the ERP 2 system for law enforcement and investigative purposes, according to statements from the transport regulator.

The data retrieval function has been deployed in several enforcement operations targeting traffic-related offences. Authorities have utilised the system to track vehicles suspected of operating illegal cross-border taxi services, which remain a persistent concern for Singapore's transport regulation framework.

ERP 2 location data has also been instrumental in identifying and detecting deregistered vehicles operating on public roads, a breach of vehicle licensing requirements. The integration of ERP data with law enforcement operations represents an expansion of the system's original function as a congestion management tool.

The disclosure comes as authorities continue to strengthen their investigative capabilities across multiple transport-related infractions. The LTA's data access represents a significant tool in enforcement efforts, though details regarding the scope of data retrieval, approval processes, and privacy safeguards remain limited.
