LTAT unveils five-year anti-corruption strategy for military pension scheme

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 — The Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) has unveiled a five-year anti-corruption and governance plan designed to protect the integrity of Malaysia's military retirement scheme, one of the nation's largest pension funds.

The initiative, announced on Monday, establishes a framework centred on ethics, transparency and integrity across LTAT's operations. The board said the comprehensive strategy addresses existing governance gaps and strengthens institutional safeguards against financial mismanagement and corrupt practices.

The five-year roadmap includes enhanced audit procedures, whistleblower protections, staff training programmes and tighter internal controls over fund management. Officials highlighted the importance of maintaining public confidence in the scheme, which serves hundreds of thousands of retired military personnel and their families.

LTAT manages approximately RM100 billion in retirement savings for armed forces members. The board's move reflects growing emphasis on institutional accountability within Malaysian government agencies and statutory bodies responsible for managing significant public assets.

The plan is expected to be fully implemented by 2029, with progress reviewed annually against established performance benchmarks and compliance metrics.
