The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has cleared the way for enhanced bus services during the Undas travel season by approving special permits for 1,131 vehicles, the agency announced Monday.
The LTFRB processed 384 special permit applications to accommodate the anticipated surge in inter-city and provincial travel as Filipinos journey to cemeteries and hometowns during the All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day observances. The approved buses are expected to provide additional capacity on major routes as passenger volumes typically peak during this period.
Beyond the approved fleet, the regulatory body is still evaluating approximately 90 additional special permit applications from bus operators seeking to expand their Undas service offerings. The board has not disclosed a timeline for deciding on the remaining applications.
The move underscores the LTFRB's efforts to balance capacity expansion with regulatory oversight during peak travel periods. Bus operators must secure special permits to deploy additional vehicles beyond their regular franchise allocations, a requirement designed to manage road congestion and maintain service standards across the country's transportation network.
