MANILA — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has begun distributing monthly subsidies to modern public utility vehicle operators, issuing the first batch of payments on Wednesday.

Sixteen cheques worth P9,080,000 in total were issued to Transport Service Entities (TSEs) operating across the country, according to LTFRB officials. The disbursements mark the start of the financial assistance program aimed at supporting operators who have transitioned to modernized PUV services.

The LTFRB established the subsidy program as part of efforts to accelerate the modernization of the country's public transportation sector. Operators of modern PUVs have faced economic pressures during the transition period, prompting the government to provide financial support to ensure service continuity.

The agency indicated that additional disbursements will follow the initial tranche, with subsequent monthly allocations planned for qualifying TSEs. Officials have urged operators to ensure compliance with program requirements to maintain eligibility for future subsidy payments.
