MANILA – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has granted special permits for 20 buses aimed at alleviating congestion on Light Rail Transit Line 2, one of Metro Manila's busiest commuter routes.
The buses will operate two dedicated routes connecting Antipolo City in Rizal province to central Manila destinations, including services to Legarda station. The approval represents a temporary transport solution designed to accommodate overflow commuters who typically rely on LRT-2 services.
The Antipolo-Legarda route is expected to serve as the primary corridor for the added bus capacity. By offering an alternative transport option, authorities aim to distribute passenger load more effectively across the public transportation network serving the eastern corridor of Metro Manila.
The special permits underscore ongoing efforts by transport regulators to address capacity challenges on the light rail system, which continues to experience heavy demand from commuters in the region. The LTFRB's approval follows growing calls from transport groups and residents for enhanced public transportation options between Antipolo and the capital.
