The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has taken action against a jeepney operator whose vehicle was captured on video counterflowing in Quezon City, issuing a show-cause order that demands a written explanation from the driver or operator.
In a statement released Saturday, the regulatory body said it ordered the jeepney operator to respond in writing to charges related to the violation. The video, which circulated widely on social media, prompted the LTFRB to open an investigation into the incident.
The show-cause order gives the operator an opportunity to explain why the vehicle's franchise should not be suspended or revoked. The LTFRB has not specified a deadline for the response, though such orders typically require responses within a set period.
Counterflowing, or driving against the direction of traffic, is a serious traffic violation that endangers public safety. The incident comes as the LTFRB continues efforts to enforce traffic regulations and maintain order among public utility vehicles operating across Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
The case highlights ongoing compliance challenges within the public transportation sector, where violations by drivers and operators have drawn increased scrutiny from authorities and the public.
