MANILA — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is conducting a feasibility study on dedicated bus routes linking Antipolo City and Manila, aimed at easing congestion on the Light Rail Transit Line 2 during peak hours and unscheduled service interruptions.

The proposed bus service would operate between Antipolo and central Manila, with Recto Avenue identified as a primary destination. The initiative responds to recurring capacity challenges on LRT 2, which serves a critical corridor connecting the eastern provinces to the capital's business and commercial districts.

The LTFRB's examination of alternative transit options reflects growing concerns about the strain on Metro Manila's aging rail infrastructure. LRT 2 regularly experiences congestion during rush periods and has faced periodic operational disruptions due to maintenance and technical issues.

Office officials have not yet released a timeline for the study's completion or indicated when proposed routes might enter operation. The special bus service would complement existing public transportation options and potentially provide a more reliable alternative during LRT 2 service suspensions.

The proposal aligns with broader efforts to enhance commuter mobility across the metropolitan area and reduce dependency on a single transit line serving high-volume corridors.
