LTFRB to regularize 638 ride-hailing drivers from temporary status

MANILA — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced Sunday that 638 transport network vehicle service (TNVS) partners would transition to regularized status after receiving provisional authority to operate.

The regularization follows a practice in which transport network companies have deployed drivers under temporary arrangements, known colloquially as "tempo" status. The LTFRB said it had received a total of 9,036 applications from TNVS partners seeking to move from this provisional classification to permanent operating status.

The move represents the regulatory board's effort to formalize the ride-hailing sector, which has grown substantially across the Philippines in recent years. Officials have emphasized the importance of bringing transport network services under clearer regulatory frameworks to ensure passenger safety and driver accountability.

The regularization of the 638 drivers is expected to provide greater job security and operational stability for ride-hailing partners who have been operating under temporary permits. The LTFRB did not immediately provide a timeline for processing the remaining applications from drivers still seeking permanent status.
