MANILA—The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) issued a directive Friday reminding public utility vehicle (PUV) operators and drivers to enforce the mandatory 20 percent fare discount for persons with disabilities (PWDs) during the busy Undas travel period.
The reminder comes as millions of Filipinos prepare to travel to their home provinces for the All Saints' Day observance. The board stressed that compliance with the discount requirement is not optional and applies to all registered PUV operators nationwide.
Operators and drivers found violating the discount mandate face penalties of P5,000 per violation. The LTFRB emphasized that the provision serves as a crucial assistance program for PWDs and ensures they have affordable access to public transportation during peak travel seasons.
The agency also called on vehicle operators to ensure accessibility features are maintained on their units, reiterating that compliance with both fare discount and accessibility requirements reflects the transportation sector's commitment to serving vulnerable sectors of society.
The directive forms part of the LTFRB's broader effort to protect passengers' rights and ensure equitable service standards across the public transportation system.
