MANILA — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a fresh reminder to public utility vehicle operators and drivers to ensure their units meet all roadworthiness and safety requirements before the Undas season, when millions of Filipinos travel to visit family graves and ancestral homes.
The transportation regulator noted that the holiday period traditionally brings a significant spike in passenger volumes across the country's road networks. With increased travel demand comes heightened risk, making vehicle compliance checks essential to protecting public safety.
To enforce these standards, the LTO conducted roadworthiness inspections at major terminals nationwide. The inspections focused on verifying that vehicles meet regulatory specifications and that operators have maintained proper documentation and certifications.
Operators and drivers are required to comply with all safety and maintenance protocols established by the LTO. The agency emphasized that non-compliance could result in penalties and vehicle impounding, underscoring the importance of pre-holiday vehicle inspections and repairs.
The Undas season typically sees heightened traffic congestion and accident risks, making vehicle safety a critical public health concern during this period of elevated road usage.
