Luxury car maker experts to aid Kochi police in crash investigation

Police investigating the Nedumbassery accident in Kochi are preparing to file an application before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-I in Angamaly for permission to extract data from the vehicle's Event Data Recorder (EDR), a device that captures critical information during crashes.

The investigation team plans to engage technical experts from the luxury car manufacturer to aid in retrieving and analyzing the recorded information. The EDR typically logs vehicle parameters including speed, acceleration, braking patterns, and steering input moments before and during a collision, providing crucial forensic evidence.

Officials said the judicial authorization is necessary to access and interpret the encrypted data stored in the EDR. The recovered information is expected to shed light on the circumstances leading to the accident and the vehicle's operational status at the time of impact.

This technical examination represents a significant phase in the investigation, with experts' involvement expected to provide detailed insights that conventional investigation methods may not uncover. The data analysis could prove instrumental in establishing the sequence of events and determining causative factors in the incident.
