Luzon braces for heavy monsoon rains Thursday afternoon
The Philippine weather bureau has warned of heavy to intense rainfall across several Luzon areas Thursday as the enhanced southwest monsoon continues to affect the region. Pagasa issued the alert in an advisory issued mid-afternoon.

Heavy rainfall is expected to drench portions of Luzon on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 27, as the intensified southwest monsoon system maintains its grip over the Philippines, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) cautioned.
The national weather agency issued its advisory at 1:45 p.m., alerting residents across the affected Luzon provinces to prepare for potentially hazardous conditions. The enhanced habagat, or southwest monsoon, has been directing moisture-laden winds across the archipelago, creating conditions favorable for intense precipitation.
Rainfall of this intensity could trigger localized flooding in low-lying and flood-prone communities, while elevated terrain may experience minor landslides. Commuters and outdoor workers are advised to monitor weather updates and take appropriate precautions ahead of the afternoon downpours.
