Luzon braces for rainy Saturday as low-pressure system approaches

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued its alert in a 5 a.m. weather advisory, cautioning residents and travelers to prepare for potentially wet conditions across the region.

The wet weather is expected to be driven by two atmospheric systems: a trough of a low-pressure area positioned off Southwestern Luzon and the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat. These systems are expected to combine to bring moisture-laden winds across the main northern island.

Pagesa did not specify which areas of Luzon would experience the heaviest rainfall, though residents in the western portions of the island typically face greater exposure to moisture flows during southwest monsoon conditions. The agency advised the public to monitor subsequent weather updates for more detailed forecasts and any warnings.

Saturday's expected weather follows typical seasonal patterns for this period, with the southwest monsoon bringing increased precipitation to the western sections of the Philippines during its active phase. Residents are encouraged to take precautions against flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.
