Luzon braces for sustained heavy rainfall through end of August

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued an updated rainfall outlook Friday morning, alerting residents across Luzon to prepare for extended wet conditions through the remainder of the month.

According to Pagasa's 5 a.m. advisory, affected areas across the northern and central regions can expect rainfall accumulations ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters on Friday alone, with further precipitation anticipated through the weekend and into Sunday, August 30.

Residents and local government units in vulnerable areas are advised to monitor weather updates regularly and take necessary precautions against potential flooding and landslides. Pagasa recommended residents avoid unnecessary travel in flood-prone communities and ensure drainage systems are clear to facilitate water runoff.

The sustained rainfall pattern is expected to gradually diminish by Monday as weather systems affecting the region move away. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and keep emergency supplies accessible during the period of heavy precipitation.
