MACC establishes vetting committee for asset-freeze orders

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has established an internal committee tasked with reviewing and vetting asset-freeze orders, according to Deputy Minister M Kulasegaran. The initiative forms part of broader measures aimed at enhancing transparency and consistency in the agency's handling of such enforcement actions. Kulasegaran indicated that the committee will examine freeze orders to ensure they meet established procedural and legal standards before implementation. In parallel, the MACC is working to consolidate its records management system for all asset-freeze orders into a centralised database. This unified approach is intended to improve tracking and oversight of freezing actions across the commission's operations. The move reflects efforts to strengthen the institutional safeguards surrounding one of the MACC's most significant enforcement tools in combating financial crimes and corruption. Asset-freeze orders remain a critical mechanism in the agency's arsenal for preventing suspects from moving funds before prosecution or civil recovery proceedings.
