KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has begun examining the RM80 million oil palm replanting initiative at Felda Palong 7 after settlers raised concerns about the scheme's implementation and management.
The investigation was initiated following representations made by residents of the federal land development scheme, who questioned various aspects of the project's execution and financial handling.
The Palong 7 replanting scheme represents a significant investment in upgrading aging oil palm estates operated by the Felda settlement. Such initiatives typically involve uprooting mature palm trees and replacing them with newer, more productive varieties, a practice common across Malaysia's plantation sector.
The MACC's involvement indicates authorities are examining whether proper procedures were followed in project tendering, fund allocation, and oversight. Replanting initiatives of this scale often involve multiple contractors and substantial public resources, making them subject to heightened scrutiny regarding governance standards.
The investigation comes as Felda continues efforts to modernise its operations and improve returns for settler families dependent on palm oil cultivation for their livelihoods.
