MACC to demand asset declarations from ex-HR minister and family

PUTRAJAYA — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said Wednesday it intends to issue asset declaration notices to former human resources minister Saravanan and five members of his immediate family as investigators seek to establish the source and extent of their financial holdings.
The notices represent a standard investigative tool employed by the anti-corruption agency to trace assets that may have been accumulated through improper means. The MACC typically issues such notices when examining potential unexplained wealth in graft cases.
Officials said the declarations would require Saravanan, his wife, and their three children to provide detailed accounts of their assets, including property, bank accounts, investments, and other valuables. Failure to comply with asset declaration notices can result in legal consequences.
The move comes as the MACC continues its scrutiny of the former minister's financial affairs. The commission has intensified its focus on high-profile cases involving public officials in recent months as part of broader efforts to combat corruption at senior levels of government.
