MACC to probe ministry overspending if complaints lodged

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is prepared to look into complaints of ministry overspending should formal allegations be brought to its attention, according to Chief Commissioner Abd Halim Aman.

Abd Halim indicated that the commission has not received direct complaints regarding excessive expenditure by government departments. "To date, we have only become aware of this issue through media coverage," he said, implying that any investigation would require official complaints or referrals.

The MACC's readiness to intervene reflects its mandate to investigate financial misconduct within government agencies. However, the commission's approach suggests it operates on a reactive basis, responding to formal complaints rather than proactively monitoring ministry budgets.

This statement comes amid ongoing public scrutiny of government spending practices. The MACC's position underscores the importance of whistleblowers and concerned citizens bringing substantiated allegations to the appropriate authorities to trigger formal investigations.

Citizens with credible evidence of ministerial overspending are encouraged to lodge formal complaints with the MACC, which would then determine whether investigations are warranted based on the nature and credibility of the allegations presented.
