Madhya Pradesh Reserves 20% of Uniform Service Jobs for Ex-Agniveers

The Madhya Pradesh government has moved to support former Agniveers by reserving a fifth of positions across five uniformed departments in the state. The cabinet approval grants 20 per cent horizontal reservation to those who have completed their tenure under the Agnipath scheme, the armed forces recruitment initiative introduced by the central government.

The reservation will apply across multiple uniformed services in Madhya Pradesh, providing employment opportunities for personnel transitioning from their military service contracts. The Agnipath scheme, which was launched nationally in 2022, allows individuals to serve in the armed forces for a fixed four-year period before returning to civilian life.

The state cabinet's decision comes as part of a broader approval of schemes and projects valued at over Rs 24,500 crore. Officials indicated that the reservation measure aims to recognize the contributions of Agniveers and facilitate their integration into state security and administrative services.

The move reflects growing recognition among state governments of the need to support the growing pool of ex-Agniveers entering the civilian job market. Several states have already announced similar reservations or employment assistance programmes for former Agnipath scheme participants, signalling a coordinated approach to the scheme's workforce management challenges.
