A resident of Datia in Madhya Pradesh has turned over four ancient coins from the Mughal era to district officials after discovering them during cleanup work at a local property. The coins, inscribed with Urdu text, were found near Lakshman Pond in the district.
Young residents Anju and Pritam Rajak discovered the artifacts while clearing the plot and made the decision to present them to Collector Swapnil Wankhede rather than retain them. The move has drawn praise for demonstrating integrity and respect for historical preservation.
The recovery adds to growing awareness among citizens about the importance of protecting heritage artifacts. District officials have initiated procedures to assess the historical significance of the coins and determine their proper archival placement. The discovery underscores the continued presence of Mughal-era artifacts in the region, reflecting the historical importance of central India during the empire's reign.
The collector's office is currently documenting the find as part of efforts to maintain records of historically significant items recovered within the district.
